    Information for Authors

    The English version of the Russian Journal welcomes articles about Russian culture, politics, history, and society from contributors all over the world. Payment depends on quality and size. Please read the following guidelines if you are interested in submitting a text:

    1. For reviews - up to 90 lines (3 standard pages).
    A review answers two questions:
    - what is the book (performance, TV show etc.) about, illustrated with a text fragment, picture, etc., however short or restricted it may be;
    - how is the idea realized (if possible, with reference to the related phenomena and the context description).

    2. For critical articles - up to 150 lines (5 standard pages). This genre includes essays on cities and towns, social groups, characters, etc.
    A critical article should answer the two above-mentioned questions, plus two more:
    - what is the described phenomenon intended for - that is, what is its function and orientation, what aims did the authors or founders of the described phenomenon have;
    - what semantic area does this phenomenon belong to, exclusively from the reviewer's point of view.

    3. For topical articles and essays - up to 240 lines (8 standard pages; a shorter variant (6 pages) is also acceptable).
    The content of a topical article rests upon one chief idea; it is up to the author to choose how to develop, prove or demonstrate it. The idea can take any form except for the mere expression of the author's 'ego'. We do not encourage our authors to incorporate many judgements on various subjects into one article. Egocentric reasoning and graceful speculations about nothing are inadmissible - except for extraordinary and very rare literary phenomena.

    Send articles for publication in English in the Russian Journal to Anna Arutunyan.
